A new report examining the youth justice system released by the Representative today reveals a gross under-utilization of scarce resources by the Ministry of Children and Family Development. While the number of youth committing crimes and being sentenced to custody has dramatically dropped, government has not yet repurposed the surplus resources that are no longer needed, resulting in the waste of taxpayer dollars, and leaving too many young people with other needs completely under-served. The Representative is calling for the reallocation of those resources to under-served children and youth.
