Why work with us?

Competitive Salary & Benefits

As an independent office of the Legislative Assembly, we are not part of core government. However we are part of the BC Public Service, and we offer the same competitive salary, benefits and pension.

RCY offers a modified work week (flex schedule) for most staff and a variety of remote/virtual and on-site work arrangements.

Employees who reflect the diversity of the young people we serve strengthen our ability to achieve our mission.

Because of the over-representation of Indigenous young people in systems of government care, we actively encourage Indigenous employees to join our team and continually strive to reflect the diversity of the young people we serve in the make-up of our staff.

One of the benefits of working with us is having direct access to a variety of training and learning opportunities offered by the BC Public Service. We also provide support for a wide-range of training options to allow our staff to reach their professional goals.

Our Hiring Process

Curious about how to join our team? Here’s a step-by-step look at our hiring process and what to expect along the way.

1. Get your application ready

  • Make sure your education and experience match the job qualifications.
  • Follow the instructions in the posting. Be sure your application is complete and that your contact info is up to date.
  • We are committed to accessibility and welcome requests for accommodation at any stage of the hiring process.
  •

2. Screening

  • We will review your application to make sure you meet the basic job requirements.
  • Only applicants who meet the required education and experience will move forward.
  • Please clearly show how you meet the education and experience criteria – including where you worked, how long you worked there, and what your duties were.

3. Assignment

  • We may ask you to complete an assignment before or at the time of your interview.
  • The type of assignment will depend on the job. Examples include writing a policy analysis, preparing an advocacy case summary, responding to a mock client call, or creating an infographic.

4. Interview

  • An interview is an opportunity for RCY to learn more about you – your background, experience and interests – and for you to learn about RCY and decide if this is a place you want to work.
  • We will ask questions related to the knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies in the job description.
  • Prepare by thinking about your experience and how you can show you’re ready for the role.
  • Our questions will invite you to share examples of your past work and behaviours (competencies) that are needed to be successful in the job.

5. Reference Checks

  • We will ask for at least two references who know you and your work, including supervisors.
  • We will ask your references about their direct observations of your past work performance.
  • Reference checks must be completed successfully before we can offer you the job.

6. Offer

  • If you are the successful candidate, we will send you an offer letter. It will include details on salary, terms and conditions of employment, required criminal record checks and any other documents you need to provide.
  • You are welcome to ask questions to make sure you have all the information you need to accept the offer.
  • After you accept the offer, there is a short review period where unsuccessful applicants can ask for feedback. Once that is over, we will send you a confirmation letter.
  • Congratulations! We will connect with you to start the onboarding process, and make sure you have everything you need for a great first day.
